Newspapers and even street signs advertised the location of public air raid shelters. If you were caught in a raid in the city center there were shelters at:

- Orchard Street
- Frogmore Street
- Queen Square
- King Street
- Small Street
- Broad Street
- Corn Street
- Baldwin Street
