2. Bomb damage in Upper Park Street
Over half the shops and buildings on Park Street were damaged or destroyed by bombing. They were rebuilt during the 1950’s and then City Architect Nelson Meredith ensured they were designed in a sympathetic and similar style, so the skyline and character remained fairly unchanged.
